The Ultimate Skin Care Routine to Healthy Skin

Shakura Singapore ultimate skin care routine

Are you guilty of using the same skincare routine since 10 years ago? Did you know that your skin condition changes as you age and so your skincare routine has to adapt accordingly?

Of course, we understand that not everyone has similar skin types. But here are some basic skincare routine steps you can follow to achieve a radiant, dewy skin!

1. Oily? Dry? Combi? Normal?

First of all, it is important to understand your skin before you establish your skincare routine. You may consider visiting a professional to find out what are some of your skin concerns in order to tackle those problems effectively. Click here for a free skin analysis with a specialist.

2. Don’t be a slob with your cleansing!

Wash your face twice every day to remove dirt, oil and other impurities. Especially for people living under Singapore’s sweltering heat and humidity, it is important to get rid of all the dirt from the sweat and pollution at the end of a long day out.

If you put on makeup, a non-negotiable step would be to remove it thoroughly before you go to bed. Never ever go to sleep with makeup still on as it will clog your pores and cause acne to form.

3. Toning up!

Using a toner after your cleansing can really make a big change to your skin! Here are 3 basic reasons why toner is a must:

  • It can effectively sop up all the residual makeup and impurities that the facial cleanser failed to remove.
  • Your toner can also help to remove excess oil on your face which in the long run, will lead to a less acne-prone complexion!
  • Applying the toner after your facial cleanse will help to tighten your pores, giving you a smoother finish!

4. Hydration is key!

Okay, this is another non-negotiable skincare step that you should never miss, even if you have the oiliest skin known to mankind. Investing in a suitable moisturizer ensures that your complexion is kept healthy, radiant and hydrated. Dot it on and rub it in with a gentle upward, circular motion to help counter wrinkles and sagging skin!

5. Bright-eyed glory

The skin around your eyes is the thinnest and that is why you should not use the same moisturizer for the rest of your face on the skin around your eyes.

If you struggle with puffiness, put your eye serum/mask in the fridge for that extra cooling factor!

6. Fun in the sun!

As part of your morning routine, apply sunscreen or a moisturizer with at least SPF 30 and above. It helps to prevent hyperpigmentation like dark spots, freckles and skin discolouration. It will also help to slow down ageing skin and the formation of wrinkles!

7. Avoid face wipes like the plague

Makeup face wipes may seem like the perfect answer to a lazy girl’s beauty routine but did you know that they are in fact very, very bad for your skin? Remove them from your skincare steps once and for all!! Research has shown that very few of these convenient makeup wipes actually contain ingredients that can effectively break down the makeup, sebum and dirt on your face. So essentially, you are just smearing all these gunk across your face without actually cleaning it.

In addition, the pressure you have to exert in order to remove your makeup (i.e. your persistent mascara and eyeliner) will cause fine lines, wrinkles and sagging skin to form prematurely. Are you convinced yet?

If you are still confused about these skincare steps, a good general rule of the thumb would be to
layer your products according to their consistency – from the lightest to the heaviest (cleanser > toner > serum > moisturizer > eye cream). At the end of the day, there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to skincare routines as everyone’s skin works differently under different conditions.
